Nick Farr, son of Gary, established his own Farr Rising label in 2001. He has had winemaking experience in both France and Australia.
The year 2008 was a super vintage in Victoria. The best wines show good depth of colour and plenty of ripe, rich fruit showing as desirable fullness in the mouth. Nick’s Geelong Pinot is dark ruby with garnet tinges and more earthy than the ethereal Mornington Pinot in the Farr Rising range.
The nose is very enticing – sweet dark cherries and spice enough to make your mouth water. It has just a whiff of desirable pinot funk, just enough to make it interesting, but the lovely ripe fruit is all. The palate is supremely well balanced with juicy acid, excellent charry oak and intensely lingering flavours with some nice chewy earthiness on the finish.
