The 2005 Pico Madama is composed of 50% Monastrell and 50% Petit Verdot. Both varieties were aged in oak for 13 months, Petit Verdot in French and Monastrell in American. Deep purple-colored, it reveals an alluring nose of wood smoke, pencil lead, mineral, violets, blueberry, and blackberry. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with a smooth-texture, excellent depth and concentration, and a sense of elegance. It nicely conceals enough tannin to carry the wine for another 6-8 years of cellaring. It will drink well through 2025
