Oxford Landing Vineyard was established in 1958 on the banks of the Murray River in South Australia. With an innovative and colourful history expanding 50 years, Oxford Landing has many hallmarks, including vast vineyard sustainability practices, down-to-earth individuals unashamedly passionate about this special place, and a collection of wines that capture and retain the natural, vibrant flavours and splendour of the Oxford Landing vineyard.
With drought conditions and low water allocations from the Murray followed by an 8 day period of 35C and over at the beginning of March, 2008 was a difficult vintage for red wines from the Riverland. Fortunately, about 50% of the grapes were harvested before the heat. Careful monitoring of the remaining vineyards for flavour development has meant that although the wines have slightly more alcohol this year, the flavours and tannins are still balanced with good length without being overripe of jammy.
Crimson with purple hues, the 2008 Oxford Landing Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz displays aromas of lifted violets and blackcurrants with hints of eucalypt, Satsuma plums and cedar. The violets and dark berry fruit flavours persist on the palate and are complimented by savoury spices which give the wine a rich mouth filling palate that is completed by the lingering Cabernet tannins.
