Domaine Louis Moreau was born from the passion of a family living in Chablis since 1814. As
early as the late 19th century, the love of this family for great wines led to the purchase of plots in
Grands Crus and Premiers Crus.

Nowadays, proprietor of parcels in 5 of the Grands Crus, including a monopole, the domaine works
many plots within the appellations of Petit Chablis, Chablis and Premiers Crus, in full harmony
with the environment.

The most prestigious of its wines is the monopole Chablis Grand Cru Clos des Hospices dans Les
Clos, which was acquired by the Moreau family in 1904.
Louis Moreau, who has been head of the domaine since 1994, produces wines with a unique style,
combining minerality, fineness, elegance and purity.

Louis represents the sixth generation of the Moreau family linked to the Chablis vineyard
destiny since 1814. He has been head of the family business since 1994, succeeding to
his father Jean-Jacques who had also created the negociant house J.Moreau & Fils en the
70’s. This company was sold years ago and has nothing to do with the Moreau family and
vineyard since then.

Louis studied at Fresno State University California, where he obtained a degree in oenology-
viticulture. Afterwards, he worked for various American and French wineries in
California, before coming back to take care of the family vineyards.

Louis places great emphasis on cultivating the vine with great respect for the environment.
He always seeks for the most natural solution in order to ensure the quality of
his vines and grapes. An important aspect of this work is done to ensure that the plants
can grow properly, struggling by themselves against external pressures. Moreover, the
results of such methods are a total control of the yield.

Louis collaborates closely in the area of nursery research with the most important domaines
in Burgundy with a view to improving the quality of his vines. He particularly
focuses his research on massal selections of the most robust vine plants in “Vieilles
Vignes” of the domaine (mainly in Premiers Crus and Grands Crus) in order to make the
most of all the terroirs.

All year long, Louis practices high quality methods, ending with handpicked harvests,
followed by small volumes transport to the winery and the use of a sorting table.
Chablis & Chablis 1ers Crus are vinified in stainless still tanks to retain all their minerality
& their fineness. On the other hand, the powerful & the richness of the Chablis Grands
Crus encourage judicious use of oak barrels for a harmonious development.
